Initial Tactical Training 6 (Night Infiltration), and US Weapons
1. References: BCT POI 21-114, Annex E; USAARMC 385-22
2. Range layouts are in Appendix 1 and 2.
3. Easy Gap M79 Range is for AT-4 and M203 training. Crane Range is for M18A1 and M60 training.
4. The Supply Sergeant must coordinate with Holder Complex to obtain the M60s, M203s and AT-4s for training NLT 3 weeks out. Ensure weapons are properly assembled and in good order when picked up. Pickup and inventory are usually at 0600 hours. The duty platoon must identify the cleaning detail prior to return to Holder, where the weapons are cleaned.
5. Large fills will have split training with two platoons going to Easy Gap M79 and the other two platoons going to Crane Range. This requires two aid vehicles, one for each range.
a. Normally, both platoons will initially arrive at Crane Range for the live fire demonstration and then move to their appropriate ranges.
b. After completion the platoons will switch. Set up lunch at Crane Range, which usually finishes first. After the privates eat, they walk to the M79 Range. Privates coming from M79 eat at Crane Range, then train.
c. After both platoons are complete, the company will consolidate at Crane Range and await transportation.
6. Smaller fills will start on Easy Gap M79 while Crane Range goes into a guard status. After completion, the platoons will walk to Crane Range and Easy Gap M79 will close.
7. Easy Gap M79 is in two phases.
a. Phase I: When privates arrive they will be split into two groups. One group will train on the AT-4 while the other group will train on the M203. The two groups will then rotate.
b. Phase II: After instruction the privates will then conduct a practical exercise.
(1) First privates will witness a demonstration by selected privates firing an AT-4 and M203. No vehicles/personnel will be allowed to enter the range until the demonstration is complete.
(2) Privates will then practice firing a modified AT-4 firing 9 mm tracer and training grenades from the M203.
8. Crane range is also in two phases:
a. Phase I: Privates will observe a live claymore demonstration and an M60 demonstration.
(1) Privates will then break into two groups. One group will go to the M60 station while the other goes to the claymore station. Drill sergeants should attend classes to refamiliarize themselves with the weapons.
(2) Upon completion the groups will rotate.
b. Phase II: Privates will fire the M60. Drill sergeants assist on the firing line.
9. ITT6 Night Infiltration (Poorman Range) is conducted on the last night of the FTX and is followed by a 15k footmarch. Plan to do some concurrent training. The range is conducted in two phases. Uniform is Kevlar, dummy weapon, and LBE without protective mask.
a. Phase I: The privates will receive instruction and conduct a daytime practice run. At least one cadre member will go through with the privates as a role model.
b. Phase II: After nightfall, privates will conduct the night infiltration course again.
Note: These Operating Instructions were derived from a set of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for a United States Army Infantry Basic Training Battalion. While SOPs might differ somewhat from batallion to batallion, it should give a basic idea of the instructions that Drill Sergeants and basic training staff members operate under.
