United States Army
Basic Training Operating Instructions
Initial Tactical Training 1 & 2
1. References: BCT POI 21-114, Annex F.
2. Conduct ITT 1 before leaving the company that morning. The cadre will put on face camouflage (learned in ITT 1) when the privates camouflage (prior to marching to training). Ensure you have enough sticks (one per buddy team). Uniform is Kevlar, weapon with blank adapter, dummy weapon and LBE without protective mask. MILES in rucksack.
3. It will take about 30 minutes to march the company to Heard Park.
4. Heard Park is run by B/3-81 and does not require a USAARMC 129. Maximize use of AIs during the pit practice. After the class and sawdust pit with the dummy weapon, privates put on MILES to negotiate the training lanes and the assault course. This is the first time the privates will put on MILES, and it will require maximum supervision for speedy completion. There is a natural break after the training lanes for lunch, and there is a mess area near the assault course.
5. The assault course has four lanes. At the assault course, Drill Sergeants will ensure buddy teams conduct fire and maneuver correctly by keeping them on the lane until they master the techniques. Practice makes perfect.
6. Drill sergeants will conduct brass and ammo shakedown and personally check that all MILES and other equipment is accounted for prior to leaving. Privates will be tired at the end of the day and drill sergeants will need to energize them to get the range policed.
Note: These Operating Instructions were derived from a set of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for a United States Army Infantry Basic Training Battalion. While SOPs might differ somewhat from batallion to batallion, it should give a basic idea of the instructions that Drill Sergeants and basic training staff members operate under.
