"Okay, we got things to do and places to go this morning, so you lunkheads have to learn the basics of drill. I don't expect miracles out of you rocket-scientists today, just how to move without running into each other." "When I call, 'Platoon, Attention!' You will plant your left foot, and move your right foot sharply so that your feet are together, toes pointed out at a 45 degree angle. Your hands will slap to your sides, with your thumb and index finger aligned on your side-seam. You ain't got one of those, yet -- just put it in the middle. Stomach in! Chest Out! No talking! No moving your head around!"
"Okay, I need four volunteers!" You:

For
the next hour, Staff Sergeant Fear continues with other basic drill commands.
You learn left face, right face, about face, parade rest, rest, forward
march, halt, and column right/left march. Sergeant Grunts and Sergeant
Bellows move through the ranks, positioning an arm here, moving a hand
there. When you're done, you're sweating almost as much as during the
run.
