How to Compute your AF Promotion Points
Air Force enlisted personnel competing for promotion to grades above E-4 are awarded promotion points, known as WAPS points. Here's how to compute your promotion points in the Air Force:

Here's How:
- If you're competing for promotion to E-5 through E-7, give yourself 1/6 point for each month of active military service, for a maximum of 40 points.
- If you're competing for promotion to E-8 or E-9, give yourself 1/12 point for each month of active military service, for a maximum of 25 points.
- Give yourself 1/2 point for each month you have in your current grade, up to a maximum of 60 points.
- Give yourself points for your medals and decorations (up to 25 points) as follows:
- 15 pt Md of Hon; 11 pt Dist Svc Crs; 9 pt Def Dist Svc Md, Dist Svc Md, Silver Star; 7 pt, Leg of Merit, Def Sup Svc Md, Dist Flying Cross; 5 pt Bronze Star, Mer Svc Md, Purp Heart; 3 pt Air Md, Aerial Ach Md, Commendation Md; 1 pt Achievment Md.
- Use the EPR computation chart (below) to compute the point value of your Enlisted Performance Reports (Maximum of 135 points)
- If you're competing for promotion to E-5 through E-7. you'll take a 100 question test about your job. This test is worth a maximum of 100 points.
- If you're competing for promotion to E-5 through E-7, you'll take a 100 question test about the Air Force. This test is worth a maximum of 100 points.
- If you're competing for promotion to E-8 or E-9, you'll take a 100 question supervisory exam. This test is worth 100 points.
- If you're competing for promotion to E-8 or E-9, your
records will meet a promotion board. The maximum board score is 450 points.
Tips:
- The cut-off for computation is at the END of the promotion cycle.
- For time in service and time in grade, give yourself
full credit if your served for more than 1/2 (15 days) of the month
