Definition: (DOD) The commander
within the joint force special operations command responsible for planning and
executing joint special air operations and for coordinating and deconflicting
such operations with conventional nonspecial operations air activities. The
joint special operations air component commander normally will be the commander
with the preponderance of assets and/or greatest ability to plan, coordinate,
allocate, task, control, and support the assigned joint special operations
aviation assets. The joint special operations air component commander may be
directly subordinate to the joint force special operations component commander
or to any nonspecial operations component or joint force commander as directed.
