Know someone in the U.S. Navy, but don't know where they are? Here's how you can find them:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 Minutes
Here's How:
- You will need the sailor's full name, rank, and social security number.
- Call the Navy Locator Service at 1-877-414-5359 or commercial 1-901-874-3388, DSN 882-3388.
- Written Requests may be made to: Navy World Wide Locator, Navy Personnel Command, PERS 312F, 5720 Integrity Drive, Millington, TN 38055-3120
- This service is free to active duty members, retirees, and immediate family members. Others may have to pay a small fee.
Tips:
- The locator cannot release information on retired personnel, but will forward a letter to them for a $3.50 fee.
- If you know what base the sailor is stationed at, you can often get their phone number by calling the "locator" on that Base. Telephone Information can connect you to the base operator.
- The Navy is the only service with an online locator system available to the public (see below).
