How To Locate Soldiers

By Rod Powers, About.com

Know someone in the U.S. Army, but don't know where they are? Here's how you can find them:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 Minutes

Here's How:

  1. You'll need to know the soldier's full name.
  2. For soldiers with common last names, a social security number may be necessary.
  3. Requests must be in writing (Phone calls are not accepted).
  4. Mail requests to: Commander, U.S. Army Enlisted Records & Evaluation Center, ATTN: Locator, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN 46249-5301

Tips:

  1. If you know what post the soldier is stationed at, you can often get their phone number by calling the "locator" on that Base. Telephone Information can connect you to the base operator.
  2. The Navy cannot help locate former soldiers or retirees
