Military personnel gained a lot of experience beating 120 - 130 degree heat in the gulf. Here's how you can protect yourself on those hot summer days:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: N/A
Here's How:
- Drink plenty of fluids. Even if you think you're drinking a lot, it's probably not enough.
- Get as much rest as possible. You'll be much better equipped to withstand the heat if you're well rested.
- Don't do strenuous work during the hotter parts of the day. Put it off until early morning or late evening.
- Wear a hat or scarf. Much heat is absorbed by your body through your head in direct sunlight.
- Cool off at least once per day. Go to a pool, go to the mall, or go to a movie theater, if you don't have air conditioning.
Tips:
- While fans can help, they are virtually worthless in temperatures above 90 degrees, or when the humidity exceeds 35 percent. Fans can dehydrate you, so drink extra fluids.
