Combat Action Badge Award Criteria
The Army announced this week the eligibility requirements for its new Combat Action Badge. The requirements are laid out in a Department of the Army letter published on June 3. The letter also discusses changes to the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Combat Medic Badge.
Combat Action Badge Design
The Army has announced the design for the Combat Action Badge. The CAB will go into immediate production and should be available late this summer or early fall through unit supply and military clothing sales stores.
Combat Action Badge
A Combat Action Badge will soon be available to all Soldiers who engage the enemy in battle. The CAB may be awarded to any Soldier, performing assigned duties in an area where hostile fire pay or imminent danger pay is authorized, who is personally present and actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy, and performing satisfactorily in accordance with the prescribed rules of engagement.
Close Combat Badge
A new badge recognizing Army troops who have been in combat will debut in March (2005). The Close Combat Badge will recognize specific Armor, Cavalry, Field Artillery and Combat Engineer Soldiers, colonel and below, serving as infantry in units purposefully reorganized to routinely conduct infantry-unique close combat missions and personally present and under fire while conducting those types of missions.
Expert Infantryman's Badge
It’s just two-by-three inches of olive-drab-colored cloth that costs $1.50 at military clothing sales stores. But some infantry Soldiers are willing to shed blood, sweat and tears to get it. It is the Expert Infantryman Badge, and those who earn it must show that they know the infantryman's trade, inside and out.
