Initial Training Overview: Job training for this MOS consists of 14 weeks of One Station Unit Training (OSUT), which combines Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) into one single course of instruction. OSUT is at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Training consists of both classroom and practical instruction in the field.

Restrictions: During Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), the Army limits a soldier's personal freedom, using a "Phase System," which grants increased freedom, based upon phase of training. For details, see Army Training Phase Restrictions.
Training Details: The OSUT course encompasses all Basic Combat Training (BCT) and all skill level 1 critical tasks selected for resident training, providing technical training in basic mobility/survivability, basic demolitions, vehicle operations, reconnaissance, fixed and float bridging. Other topics include: Directing construction of fighting positions and wire entanglements, employing M-180 demolition charges, conducting engineer reconnaissance, directing crewmembers in the assembly and maintenance of fixed bridges, directing crew in the assembly of raft and float bridges, and operating or supervising the use of bridge boats.
