Army Training -- MOS 21B -- Combat Engineer

Initial Training Overview:

Job training for this MOS consists of nine weeks of Basic Training and six weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Training consists of both classroom and practical instruction in the field.

Restrictions:

During Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), the Army limits a soldier's personal freedom, using a "Phase System," which grants increased freedom, based upon phase of training. For details, see Army Training Phase Restrictions.

Training Details:

The course is designed to teach skill level 1, by resident training. Training in engineer tools, mine/countermine operations, basic combat construction, rigging, demolitions, fixed bridging, river crossing operations, and vehicle operations. Other topics include: Directing and assisting in the operation of engineering wheeled or tracked vehicles, determining zero settings and firing the combat engineer vehicle weapon systems, directing the construction of fighting positions and wire entanglements, dontrolling fire team movements, placing explosives and clearing misfires, and conducting reconnaissance operations.
