Army Training - - MOS 13P - - Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist

Initial Training Overview: Job training for The multiple launch rocket system operations/fire direction specialist consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, and seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Part of this time is spent in a classroom and part in the field under simulated combat.

Restrictions: During Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), the Army limits a soldier's personal freedom, using a "Phase System," which grants increased freedom, based upon phase of training. For details, see Army Training Phase Restrictions.
Training Details: The course is designed to train Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Fire Direction personnel in the operation and maintenance of the Fire Direction System (FDS)/Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS), Single Channel Ground and Air Radio System (SINCGARS). Some of the course topics covered include: methods of calculating targets electronically and manually, operating communication systems specific to the MLRS, plotting points using different types of maps, and artillery tactics and battle strategy.
