Initial Training Overview: Job training for a Field Artillery Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, and seven weeks, one day of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Part of this time is spent in a classroom and part in the field under simulated combat.

Restrictions: During Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), the Army limits a soldier's personal freedom, using a "Phase System," which grants increased freedom, based upon phase of training. For details, see Army Training Phase Restrictions.
Training Details: The training course provides the soldier with skills and knowledge required of all skill level one members from the firing platoon to echelons above corps fire control elements to include communications, tactics, manual fire direction, and operation of AFATDS. Some of the topics covered in the course include methods of computing target locations, ammunition-handling techniques, gun, missile and rocket system operations, and artillery tactics.
