Preparing for Air Force Basic Training

Emergency Alarm Signals

By Rod Powers, About.com

Okay, okay, the chances of you being at Lackland during a major natural disaster, or the chances of Lackland Air Force Base falling under enemy attack while you're there are slim.

However, the Air Force is in the business of responding to natural disasters and enemy attacks, so you're required to learn the alarm signals early on (by the end of the first week of training).

Additionally, you will use the attack signals, along with chemical protective signals during "warrior week" while undergoing simulated air base attacks.

During an peacetime actual disaster or exercise while you're at basic training, use the shortest possible route to any "A" level (first floor) dormitory or assigned classroom. If you are outside the squadron area (i.e., returning from appointment) during an actual disaster, take IMMEDIATE cover. Report to your assigned shelter when told. Your assigned building shelter is any "A" level dormitory or assigned classroom in your squadron area.
