Forum Leader

Chien

Chien joined the Navy at 18, and had a checkered career for thirteen years -- 13 NJPs and a Special Court. He got busted to E-5 and was almost tossed out. That's an interesting story of it's own. He successfully completed a Rehab and regained the rank of E-6 in minimum time. He was passed over for chief once then picked it up. Chien claims that as probably one of the proudest moments of his life. He did another ship tour, and states he "felt like a dinosaur," and knew it was time to go. Chien back to school, became a substance abuse counselor at VVSD, until he got fed up with San Diego and used his military retainer to buy a house in a small town in the mountains. His current life allows him to do pretty much as he pleases.

Chien claims he doesn't see life the way most others do. "Just a different life experience, I guess, but I'm pretty disconnected from 'society.' Learned in my travels that people are pretty much the same all over the world. It's the BS governments that are the problem. No racial prejudices because of the way I was brought up (single mother in the Fifties who didn't play that race crap. Also made for a different take on the Ozzie and Harriet period of American history). I have an objective view of American history, and just love to bust people's bubbles when they start talking about certain aspects of American Culture."

"My two favorite descriptions that have been told to me are 'quirky' and very highly reality-based. Got that from a substance abuse counselor that I knew and held in very high regard. I like this forum because it pretty much works the way the military most effectively works from within...your word is your honor."
