The Pentagon will lift parts of its longtime ban on women serving in combat units,
but only a small fraction of the force will be affected, officials announced Thursday,
according to an Army
Times story..
The change will open up about an additional 1 percent of military jobs to women, but about 20 percent of jobs across the active-duty force will remain restricted to men.

women are not built to keep up with men with the loads they carry and and keep up the pace. they have to be helped which puts a liability on the squad/platoon/company. they dont have the upper body strength to make the cut. dog and pony shows for DOD proves nothing as that is just what the DOD wanted to see, not the real world situation. they have too many boo-hoo times that will affect their effectivness.
I am ok with women serving in combat as long as they prove they have the chops to pull the same loads and use their training as is expected in stressful situations. some think it’s just not poss, no matter what, but I think the biggest hurdle will be training the guys not the women. women serve in these roles in militaries in other nations and do fine from everything I see. we are just lagging behind (as usu). training is everything. proper training is what makes a soldier. nothing but respect to any soldier that answers the call no matter the capacity but it’s 2012 and time for us to get w the program.
