More Women Than Men Separated Under "Don't Ask"

By , About.com GuideOctober 12, 2009

Follow me on:

Pentagon officials won't speculate why women in uniform are more likely to be discharged from the armed services under "don't ask, don't tell," but critics of the policy say that new figures reflect deep-seated sexism in the armed forces, according to an Army Times article.

Government statistics show that more than 619 men and women were discharged last year because of their sexual orientation. Of those, one-third were women -- even though they account for 15 percent of all active-duty and reserve members.

Could it also be because some of these female soldiers (like a roommate of mine)’self-reports’ her homosexuality because she wants out? Not because of sexism?

Do you usually say something is free and then charge for it? That is false advertising. I know you won’t have the guts to post this comment. It’s an act of pure optimism to write it in thee first place. This site is a complete lie. NOTHING is free

Do you think that maybe there are more homosexual women per capita than men? It’s not like it’s some huge state secret. I don’t care either. But I thin if you are homosexual or have strong homosexual urges you should not join the service. I do however think that don’t ask don’t tell is a mistake. Many people take advantage of it so they can get military benefits before telling. It takes a lot of money to train a soldier. Wasted money. I feel that if you join and don’t tell you should receive a less than honorable discharge and no benefits after separation.

I meant to say that if you join , go through training, receive benefits, then tell you should receive a leass than honorable and no benifits whatsoever. You lied up front. You should pay at the end.
