Army Again Reduces Recruiting Goal

Monday April 20, 2009
For the second time in as many months, the Army has decreased its recruiting goal. In March, the Army announced that they decreased their Fiscal Year 2009 recruiting goal from 78,000 to 71,000. Now the Army has announced the goal has been further reduced to 65,000 new soldiers. In addition, the Army has also reduced its re-enlistment goal from 65,500 down to 55,000.

I've been told by many Army recruiters over the past several weeks, that the Army now has more applicants than they can accept. As a result, many Army recruiting commands are beginning to "pick and choose" who they allow to enlist. Some recruiting batallions are turning away anyone who scores less than a 50 on the ASVAB. Far fewer GED-holders are being accepted than in the past (unless they have at least 15 college credits). Additionally, waivers (medical and criminal history) are getting hard to come by.

Do these numbers include commissioned officers? I know the Army was short officers last year, but can’t find information on whether or not they are still in need of them.

It includes all enlisted. That means, it includes those who enlist under the OCS option.

It does not include ROTC and West Point slots.

If the medical information from the MEPS physical is incorrectly reported with the information stand based on the situation of the need of less recruits? I had a reading of 101 which was within the 70-125 range and i was told that i had high blood sugar.

Could the reduction in recruitment goals be a thinly veiled pencil-and-paper tactic at being able to pronounce that, voila, goals are now indeed being met. At the same time, the rif raf, dummys, and the sick-lame-and-lazy are, at last, being rejected for failure to meet the high standards of the Green Machine…GOTTA LOVE IT!

Sarge, ABN!
