Army Enlistment Incentives

Wednesday December 31, 2008
Without doubt, the Army has more enlistment incentives than any of the other military services. In fact, the Army offers so many treats to entice applicants to join up that it's sometimes hard to keep track of them. Here's a listing of current incentives offered for enlistment in the active duty Army and the Army Reserves.

Too many goodies on the plate is akin to allowing the kid to have his cake and ice cream first as an inducement to eating the main course. Service to the Country is, and always has been, a bigger-than-self proposition, with benefits (G.I. Bill, etc) following the service period. These benefits were a form of “Thank you for your service”…with benefits and bonuses preceding the period of service, we are, in effect, creating a whats-in-it-for-me force. While many join the ranks for the right reasons…service and self-sacrifice for causes bigger than self…far too many don the uniform for purposes of self-satiation. These very same individuals (and that’s exactly what they are…individuals), best leadership notwithstanding, will never be warriors, Soldiers, and team players.
