Air Force Maintenance Again to be Part of Flying Squadrons

Monday June 2, 2008

Here we go again. In the early 90s, the Air Force underwent a massive reorganization, which removed aircraft maintenance personnel from maintenance squadrons and placed them under the command of flying squadron commanders. Then, in 2002, the Air Force decided it wasn't such a great idea afterall, and reorganized again, placing maintainers back into maintenance squadrons.

Now, according to an article in the Air Force Times, beginning in July, aircraft crew chiefs, flightline maintainers and weapons loaders for fighter, bomber and combat search-and-rescue wings will again move from maintenance squadrons to operations squadrons, coming under the command of pilots.
