Guard Recruiter Accused of Falsifying Enlistment Paperwork
The Louisiana National Guard has accused Sgt. Stephen Davis, an Army National Guard recruiter, of falsifying high-school equivalency certificates and other papers for recruits, Davis faces charges including unlawful enlistment under Article 84 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, attempted unlawful enlistment under Article 80, conspiracy to commit unlawful enlistment under Article 81, obstruction of justice under Article 134-35, and false official statement under Article 107. If convicted of all charges, he could receive a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted rank, and up to two years in jail.
Col. John Dunlap, judge advocate for the Louisiana National Guard said that military investigators will be checking qualifications of everyone enlisted by Sgt. Davis since he became a recruiter in 2005, as well as trying to determine if any recruits knew the recruiter was faking paperwork for them. If found that the recruits knew, they could be subject to similar charges.
