Army Extends Basic Training
Monday November 5, 2007
The Army is extending the length of its basic training from nine weeks to ten weeks.
A pilot 10-week program began on Nov. 2 and will run through mid-March. The Army will then revert to it's nine week program, before instituting the 10-week program permanently in October 2008, after next summer's basic training surge. The extra week will consist of discretionary time to allow drill sergeants to provide additional training in areas where recruits have shown weaknesses, according to Army officials. The Army hopes the additional time will reduce basic training attrition rates.

Oh just perfect I was supposed to graduate from BCT the day before my one year anniversary, this will push me to the week after.
My wife is going to kill me.
Yes, it will delay your Army basic training graduation date by one week.
However, there is no way to forecast how long one will be in basic anyway, because there is no way of telling how long one will remain in the reception battalion upon arrival, before being assigned “down field” to one of the basic training companies.
Most people spend only about a week in the Reception Batallion, but it’s not unusual for folks to spend two weeks, three weeks, and sometimes even longer (especially during the basic training “surge” during the summer months).
For details, see my Army Basic Training article at:
I think extending basic training an extra week is a great idea. The extra emphasis on the recruits weaknesses would really help them in the long run.
Ohh now you have one more week of training. That means one more week to get shot at the rifle range by some idiot flagging the line. Be a man, join the Marines and go through 13 weeks of hell but atleast feel like you acomplished something after your done. ANYONE cane be in the army, it takes a special person to be a Marine!!!
