The Hurricane Hunters

Friday August 13, 2004
Hurricane Charlie is about to pound Central Florida. In just the past two hours, the "track" has changed to bring the major storm right through my living room, here in Daytona Beach.

Helping to track this storm are the members of the 53rd Reconnaissance Squadron "Hurricane Hunters" at Keesler Air Force Base, MS. The Hurricane Hunters are part of Air Force Reserve Command’s 403rd Wing. They are the only Department of Defense organization still flying into tropical storms and hurricanes on a routine basis.
